Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, impulsively meets and marries the son of an oligarch. After arriving in Russia, her fairy tale is threatened when her parents leave for New York to annul the marriage. I just watched one of the best films of the year. The nights of the Athens Festival began, and during the opening ceremony we were lucky enough to meet Anora. From the first wall we are glued to the screen and this feeling does not fade. As the movie went on, I kept thinking, “Okay, at some point it has to slow down, right?
Honor has one of the best beats I’ve ever seen in a movie
Let’s breathe. » No, not a pause, not a failure, not even a hint of slowing down. Anora, a sex worker and hot girl from Brooklyn, meets the son of a Russian oligarch and marries him in a whirlwind of madness. But his fairy tale quickly turns into a nightmare when the news reaches Russia, and his parents do everything possible to dissolve the marriage.
The lead actress, Mikey Madison, who plays Honora, was an absolute revelation
She easily combines sensuality, femininity, childlike innocence and toughness in such a way that leaves you speechless. She’s going to go very, very far, and don’t be surprised if you see her nominated for an Oscar. Personally, I would still give the nomination for the best supporting actor to Mark Eidelstein, who plays the Russian son. This is the most interesting thing I’ve seen in a long time.
Anora is a blow to the traditional concept of a fairy tale
Fiction. This is a realistic, cruel, rough, funny and ultimately cute modern story about Cinderella. Only in the real world, no prince will come to save you – you will have to pick up the pieces yourself and raise your head. Check out the full line-up for this fall’s 62nd New York Film Festival.
