Narrative
Two teenage sisters are about to leave their country forever when they unexpectedly find their father absent. Switzerland’s official submission for the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category at the 97th Academy Awards in 2025.. Watched at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. As one of the few Peruvian films I’ve seen, it’s quite good. Director Klaudia Reynicke definitely makes a personal and interesting observation of the family dynamics between fathers and daughters and the dynamics were well executed with good performances, strong direction and moments of pretty good dialogue and presentation used throughout. The narrative is simple and while predictable and a bit cheesy, the emotional core, direction and good performances help keep the story interesting nonetheless. There are some interesting insights into the political turmoil of Peru and the dynamic relationships between fathers and sons. Overall, it’s a nice warm and sweet film.
