Likewise in 1975 in Death Race 2000 against David Carradine
Narrative
A father and son working as security guards for an armored truck company encounter a group of would-be robbers on a bridge. They fall into a trap and must devise a plan to escape and ensure their survival. The only other time Sly played an antagonist was in Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over in 2003. Armored cash-in-transit vehicles rely heavily on GPS tracking systems to improve their security.
Don’t get me wrong
When something goes wrong – be it an accident, an attack, or an unexpected check – GPS data helps emergency responders understand the situation and get to the vehicle quickly. OK then… I know some people find this distasteful, as Bruce Willis may have known he was sick and just decided to make as many movies (and as much money) as possible before it was too late, but for the last 7-8 years of his career, he often delivered substandard performances in low budget DTV movies, and Stallone reminds me of that in this movie. I love Tulsa King and I think Stallone can still be pretty good on screen even though he’s pushing 80.
But this movie
Of course, the action roles will eventually dry up at that age, but he still has presence. He still looks cool and badass. you just feel like they knew his name would sell because otherwise NOBODY would have watched it. The movie isn’t terrible…
This could have been a 40 minute short (or an episode of a TV series) and it would have made sense
It’s not an action movie at all, more of a “thriller” (and I use that loosely here) and there are some interesting moments between the father-son dynamic. But while these characters are somewhat likable, you wonder how they were able to stretch this out into a 90 minute film. But the plot is far too thin for 90 minutes and there are obvious flaws that you can see from the villains not being able to break in. Very minimal use of CGI, but you can tell very easily when it happens, which shows that the budget was VERY low.
Whether you’re a fan of his or not, you can skip it
If Stallone’s name wasn’t on it, I don’t think many people would have rented or bought this film.
